WHY JOIN THE ST. CROIX CHAMBER OF COMMERCE?

The St. Croix Chamber of Commerce is committed to building and sustaining a more favorable pro-business climate on St. Croix to encourage economic growth and expansion, meaning more jobs and economic opportunities for all the citizens of St. Croix. Why is this important to you? Because the more business on St. Croix the more business for your business.

As the leading public advocate for business on St. Croix – large and small – the St. Croix Chamber of Commerce is recognized and represents the interests of the business community on issues critical to business success through interactions with the DeJongh Administration, the Legislature and various government agencies.

To that end, the St. Croix Chamber of Commerce has proactively engaged the Territory’s decision-makers over the last 12 months by:

1. Hosting Meet Your Senators events designed to make members of the 27th Legislature aware of issues important to the business community and promote dialogue between Chamber members and their senators

2. Submitting testimony and public statements on behalf of Chamber members to legislative committees considering bills to a) add 150 police officers to St. Croix b) establish a witness protection program in the Virgin Islands c) ban smoking in all enclosed business establishments, including bars and restaurants d) establish a reading and GED program for inmates housed by the Bureau of Corrections.

3. Successfully opposing the Waste Management Authority’s plans to impose Environmental User Fees on all products coming into the Territory in testimony to the V.I. Public Service Commission and public statements.

4. Successfully supporting legislation to increase the gross receipts exemption for small businesses from $5,000 per month to $9,000 per month and increasing the annual gross receipt tax ceiling for small businesses from $150,000 to $225,000 per year.

5. Hosting Member Business Luncheons with such keynote speakers as Governor John deJongh, Commissioner of Education Designee Dr. Lynn Spampinato, V.I. Energy Office Executive Director Brevon Smith and WAPA Executive Director Hugo Hodge.

The Chamber also hosted forums this past fall those candidates seeking election to the 28th Legislature focusing on issues important to the business community.

While serving as One Voice for the St. Croix business community on public issues, the Chamber also offers members opportunities to build their businesses by providing members with:

1. Networking opportunities with other Chamber members through monthly Business After Hour events and opportunities to host Business After Hours events.

2. Waiver of administrative fees on certain group health insurance plans that can save individuals up to $300 a year on their insurance premiums.

3. Invitations and discount rates to Member Business Luncheons.

4. A free listing on the Chamber website (www.stxchamber.org) with direct hyperlinks to your business website as well as opportunities to promote your business with web advertising at reasonable rates.

5. The Chamber’s newly updated website offers member businesses opportunities to individually access the website to post job openings as well as to promote new or special products, services and prices through its “Hot Deals” feature.

6. A free listing in the annual Who’s Who In Business and Membership Directory, one of St. Croix’s most popular reference guides, which is distributed throughout the business community as well as to potential new residents and new businesses.

7. Email alerts and opportunities to provide comments on emerging issues and upcoming legislation.

8. A monthly email newsletter featuring information about upcoming events and activities.

MEMBERSHIP DUES to the St. Croix Chamber of Commerce are based on the number of full-time St. Croix employees of the business and are more than reasonable – starting at $200 a year for businesses with five (5) or fewer employees. That’s not much more than a couple rounds of golf or dinner for two at many St. Croix restaurants.

You can build your business and help build a more vibrant business economy on St. Croix by joining the St. Croix Chamber of Commerce. For more information, contact the St. Croix Chamber of Commerce at 773-1435 or by email at info@stxchamber.org.
