2009 BUSINESS AND PROFESSIONAL EXCELLENCE AWARDS GALA
Thank you to the more than 200 Chamber members and their guests who attended the St. Croix Chamber of Commerce 2009 Business and Professional Excellence Awards Gala this past Saturday evening at Teddy’s at Sion Farm.
Congratulations to all of the 29 finalists in seven different categories who were recognized and honored at this year’s gala. Also, congratulations to our 2009 winning nominees:
2009 BUSINESS OF THE YEAR: Marshall and Sterling Insurance for creating career and ownership opportunities for its 35 employee-owners while providing them with comprehensive benefits and contributing to dozens of community organizations and events.
2009 SMALL BUSINESS OF THE YEAR: Horizon Energy Systems, VI for helping to transform St. Croix into a “green” society by providing state-of-the-art, energy-saving products and services for commercial and residential construction and applications.
2009 NEW BUSINESS OF THE YEAR: Select Temp Staffing and Business Center for providing convenient and affordable office and staffing services to nurture the growth of small businesses and for developing innovative training programs to enhance the professional skills and career development of local employees and individuals.
2009 PROFESSIONAL BUSINESS WOMAN OF THE YEAR: Suzanne Rosbach of Cane Bay Dive Shop for successfully marketing St. Croix and both its water sports and land-based activities at dozens of stateside and international trade and travel shows and through visits to travel agents, attracting thousands of new visitors to local resorts and hotels.
2009 PROFESSIONAL BUSINESS MAN OF THE YEAR: Chef Anton Doos for sharing his culinary expertise and professionalism with hundreds of young students through the Culinary Program at the St. Croix Career and Technical Education Center, providing them with the skills and positive customer service experience for successful careers in the culinary and hospitality industry both locally and throughout the United States.
2009 NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION OF THE YEAR: The St. Croix Foundation for its far reaching efforts to enhance economic and community development on St. Croix, such as through the revitalization of Sunday Market Square, as well as for its comprehensive efforts to introduce innovative educational programs to St. Croix teachers and students to improve their academic performance.
2009 LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD: Bill Bohlke for his tireless efforts over the past 40 years to enhance of the quality of life available on St. Croix through his dedication to aviation, including founding Bohlke International Airways; certifying more than 900 pilots over the years after becoming youngest FAA Examiner in the Southern Region; successfully recruiting the prestigious Hurricane Hunters to relocate their base in the eastern Caribbean from Antigua to St. Croix; helping to save the lives of 38 airline passengers when a ALM-DC 6 ditched off of St. Croix in 1970; and his numerous efforts to help local youngsters succeed.
